The young forward has developed a reputation for arrogance and overconfidence in the media, even before his draft year. In an interview with Sam Cosentino over a month before the 2022 NHL Draft, the Kingston Frontenacs star confidently asserted that he deserved to be the first overall pick. However, the Seattle Kraken selected him fourth overall, and during his time onstage, Wright famously shot a disdainful glare at the Montreal Canadiens, who passed on him.
However, Wright's self-assessment seems to be disconnected from reality once again. NHL Fantasy has projected that Wright will tally 48 points in the 2024-25 season-a respectable number but far from what would be expected of a "generational talent." When one fan pointed this out, it highlighted the gap between Wright's perception of himself and his performance. To put it in perspective, a 48-point season would have placed him 138th in the league last season, with the top eleven players recording at least double that amount.
Despite his undeniable talent-Wright scored 22 goals and 47 points in 59 games with the Coachella Valley Firebirds last season in the AHL-his inflated self-image has once again made him a target of ridicule. One can only hope that Wright learns a lesson in humility this time.
