Despite moving into the SAP Center arena in 1993 and playing there for 31 years, changes to their arena management agreement with San Jose, effective July 1, 2025, could force them out.
According to Sharks' president Jonathan Becher, the new terms are "unfavorable" for the team.
While they might leave the SAP Center, the Sharks intend to stay in the Bay Area, with San Francisco and Oakland being top relocation options. The team will push hard to remain in San Jose if possible. Insider Sheng Peng revealed that the agreement prevents them from moving far, ensuring they stay within the region.
Though the Sharks have struggled recently, their deep connection with San Jose over the past three decades makes the potential move bittersweet. However, given the unfavorable terms of the new agreement, relocating might be necessary. With the Golden State Warriors' recent move to a new home in San Francisco, there could be potential for the Sharks to find a new base nearby.
