Team Canada scandal: Former Ottawa senators retire and find job in completely different field
The legal proceedings involving five players from Team Canada's 2018 World Junior team, including Alex Formenton, continue to unfold as pre-trial hearings approach.
Superior Court Justice Bruce Thomas allowed the players to skip these hearings, with their lawyers attending on their behalf, citing work and career demands as a reason.
In a surprising development, it was revealed that Alex Formenton has left the hockey world entirely. After playing 109 NHL games for the Ottawa Senators and spending two seasons in Switzerland with Ambri-Piotta, Formenton has transitioned into a new career in construction. He now resides in Barrie, Ontario, where he works full-time, receiving training in heavy equipment operation and administrative tasks.
Meanwhile, fellow accused players Michael McLeod and Dillon Dubé have signed contracts in the KHL. Cal Foote and Carter Hart are continuing their training, with Hart considering a move to Nashville. The trial for the case begins in September 2025, with all five players pleading not guilty.
