Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman recently revealed that the Buffalo Sabres were on the verge of trading young forward Peyton Krebs.

This revelation comes just after the Sabres re-signed Krebs to a two-year, $2.9 million contract, ending an offseason standoff in which Krebs rejected his June qualifying offer and became a restricted free agent.

Krebs, 23, had been part of trade speculation, but his desire to stay in Buffalo ultimately led to his return. Originally acquired in the 2021 Jack Eichel trade, Krebs scored four goals and 17 points over 80 games last season.

Friedman's report suggests the Sabres nearly dealt Krebs, but keeping him ensures stability for Buffalo as they continue their push toward becoming a playoff contender. Having played 215 career games between Vegas and Buffalo, Krebs' role with the team remains crucial, and his international success with Team Canada underscores his potential moving forward.
