Though Detroit Red Wings acquired Kailer Yamamoto via trade from the Edmonton Oilers, alongside Klim Kostin, he was bought out shortly after and never played a game for the Detroit Red Wings. Detroit's move appeared to be part of a strategic deal to obtain Kostin, but both players have since moved on, with Yamamoto still on the Red Wings' salary cap for one more season at $533,333.
Kailer Yamamoto, a once-promising prospect known for his speed and scoring ability, has accumulated 134 points in 303 NHL games. However, his productivity has declined, with last season seeing him post just 16 points in 59 games for the Seattle Kraken. Despite his struggles, Yamamoto, still relatively young at 25, can earn a contract during training camp with Utah.
He joins other former Red Wings players Michael Hutchinson, Sam Gagner, Adam Erne, and Jakub Vrana-who have signed PTOs this offseason.
