After contributing significantly to Skellefteå AIKs SHL Championship victory last season, where he recorded 18 points (10 goals, eight assists) in 39 regular-season games and 7 points in 14 playoff games, Axel Sandin-Pellikka is eager to improve his defensive game.
At 19 years old, he is focused on becoming a more well-rounded player, especially in defending against forwards in the corners, an area he plans to work on intensively this season. His time in the SHL, where he'll likely receive more ice time than in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins, is crucial for his development. Axel Sandin-Pellikka is also motivated by his experience with Team Sweden, where he was a key player in their silver-medal finish at the 2024 World Junior Championship.
Detroit's Assistant Director of Player Development, Dan Cleary, noted that while Axel Sandin-Pellikka could handle the challenge of playing in the AHL, staying in Skellefteå benefits his growth. Axel Sandin-Pellikka is excited about another season in the SHL. He aims to build on his experiences and contribute to his team's success while focusing on getting stronger and smarter on the ice.
