The Detroit Red Wings picked up a major win tonight, beating the divisional foe Tampa Bay Lightning 2-0 and earning a pair of crucial points in the standings.
Marco Kasper broke the scoreless tie in the 2nd period by deflecting the puck past goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy, while Michael Rasmussen scored into the empty net in the final moments of the 3rd period.
Cam Talbot made 28 saves for his 2nd shutout of the year.
However, Rasmussen was hurt while scoring his empty net goal after he was tripped by Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov; he crashed into the net, which came off the moorings.
And while Rasmussen didn't appear to be much worse for wear immediately after getting back on his skates, he was later seen requiring assistance from the team training staff to make it back to the locker room.
Head coach Todd McLellan painted an optimistic picture on Rasmussen's health, saying based on what he heard in the short time between his interview and the incident on the ice, that he wasn't seriously injured.
The Red Wings didn't have Patrick Kane and Tyler Motte available to them; Kane has missed the last pair of games with an upper-body injury he suffered earlier in the week against the Dallas Stars, while Motte hasn't played since losing his edge and falling face-first into the boards against the San Jose Sharks earlier in January.
