The Detroit Red Wings took down the Toronto Maple Leafs at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday night, a 4-2 final thanks to a pair of goals from a most unlikely source.
Defenseman Jeff Petry, who has faced plenty of criticism for his defensive deficiencies, scored not once but twice; he opened the scoring in the 1st period and then cleaned up a rebound in the 3rd period for the game-winner.
After the game's conclusion, the Red Wings announced a key roster move.
Goaltender Jack Campbell, who had been brought up from the AHL to back up Ville Husso, has been sent back to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Campbell's call up was necessitated by the injury to Cam Talbot, who re-tweaked his injury during practice following Thursday's game against the Flyers.
Husso picked up his 1st win since last year, making several notable stops including a breakaway save on Mitch Marner.
Campbell was bought out by the Edmonton Oiler just 2 years into the 5-year contract he signed in 2023, given to him by former Red Wings GM Ken Holland.
While he came to Edmonton expected to replicate the success he had with the Maple Leafs, Campbell never lived up to the expectations and was often demoted to the AHL.
After being bought out of the final years of his deal, he was signed by the Red Wings to a 1-year contract strictly to provide depth and to get minutes in the AHL.
