Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane gets brutally honest about career-worst statistic
Despite having an entire offseason of preparation, Detroit Red Wings forward and future Hall of Famer Patrick Kane has failed to produce at his rate of last year.
The good news for Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane is that he had plenty of jump during last night's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The bad news is that before his assist, he had gone nine games without registering a single point, the highest mark of his career.
His 1.96 shots per game and shooting percentage of 6.4 are also career-lows.
Before that, he had only gone seven games without a point as his career-high. He knows he's back in Detroit to produce offense, and he knows it's up to him to break through.
You're here to produce, you got to produce and it's not happening right now. All you can do is look yourself in the mirror, come into practice, work hard, try to get better, and try to make the next game your game to break through.
But I think at this point it's kind of like maybe you're hoping for things to happen and it's just not a good thing when things are going like that. You got to make it happen. So, let's make tomorrow the night to do that.
Can Patrick Kane turn it around?
Last year, Kane produced at nearly a point-per-game rate, but the numbers have not been the same this year.
Coach Derek Lalonde knows the importance Kane brings to the team, and prior to last night's win over the Leafs, indicated that he wants to set Kane up for success.
Obviously, he's struggling. Last night he's got the open net. I think that game (4-1 loss to the Flyers) looks a lot different if he scores it and we're up 1-0.
Hit the crossbar vs. Buffalo (Monday). Obviously, you can tell he's battling a little bit. We'll try to set him up for some success.
