The Detroit Red Wings are building an impressive core with stars like Moritz Seider, Lucas Raymond, Alex DeBrincat, and Dylan Larkin leading the charge. However, keeping this core intact long-term will require some tough decisions.

To free up cap space for the 2025-26 season and beyond, certain players may need to be moved. Jonatan Berggren, despite his potential, could be traded by the 2025 deadline as the Wings look for that missing piece to secure a playoff spot. Justin Holl, another potential casualty, might be moved even before the season starts unless he impresses in camp. Ville Husso's future is equally uncertain; with Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon ahead of him, he may be relegated to a depth role, making his contract expendable.

These moves, while difficult, may be necessary to ensure that the Wings can retain their core and continue their upward trajectory. As the season approaches, all eyes will be on Steve Yzerman's next steps.
