Detroit Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider sends J.J. Peterka flying with monster hit (VIDEO)

While many elements of tonight's Detroit Red Wings game haven't gone according to plan, one bright spot is the play of defenseman Moritz Seider.

During the second period against the Buffalo Sabres, Seider completely wrecked center and fellow German J.J. Peterka with a massive body check, sending him flying:

Later, it was Seider to the rescue. He scored a huge goal to tie the game at 5-5 late in the third period:

Ultimately, the Red Wings pulled a massive victory out of their hats, rebounding from deficits of 1-0, 3-2, and 5-3; they won 5-4 via the shootout.

In doing so, Sebastian Cossa became the 1st goalie in NHL history to pick up his inaugural victory in his debut in comeback fashion.

After Detroit's most recent loss, a 2-1 setback to the Colorado Avalanche, Seider admitted there wasn't much happiness in the Red Wings' room and that it was up to them to change their circumstances.

"I mean, no one is happy in the locker room. Why should we? We're losing games that are winnable and we just can't find ways to get it done. That's really frustrating.

We shouldn't be lying to ourselves. We need to be better. It shouldn't drag us down, though.

We come to the rink with a big smile tomorrow, get ready to work, play two opponents that are really close and hopefully get four points and get back with a little bit of swagger."

Seider's goal against the Sabres gave him three for the year so far.
