The Detroit Red Wings allowed the Buffalo Sabres, who are winless in their last six home games, to take a 3-2 lead into the locker room after the first 20 minutes of action.
And after Red Wings goaltender Ville Husso was victimized for the three goals on just seven shots by Buffalo, coach Derek Lalonde decided to make a change during the intermission.
Sebastian Cossa entered the game for the first time at the NHL level to begin the 2nd period, but his introduction to the game was a rough one, allowing a goal just 2:26 into his debut:
Unfortunately, it wasn't long before he allowed a second goal; the Sabres took a 5-3 lead after Jason Zucker walked right around struggling defenseman Erik Gustafsson and beat an outstretched Cossa:
The good news for the Red Wings is that they mounted a comeback effort in the third period and ultimately came away with a 5-4 win in the shootout; Cossa picked up the win, his 1st in the NHL.
Sunday night's game could be considered Husso's first poor performance since he was pulled from the net back in October after allowing five goals to the Pittsburgh Penguins at Little Caesars Arena.
He was sent the minors and performed well, and was called back to the Red Wings after the injury to Alex Lyon, from which he remains unavailable.
Husso is in the final year of his contract with the Red Wings; don't expect to see him extended another offer from general manager Steve Yzerman.
