The Red Wings have been without goaltender Alex Lyon after he was hurt during practice last month, and he's now given a key update on his condition.

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Alex Lyon "tweaked" something during a practice session last month, and hasn't been available for game action since then; he last played since Detroit's 4-2 win over the Islanders on November 25.

He's been back at practice of late, and ahead of his team's trip to Philadelphia for tonight's game against the Flyers, Lyon gave the latest update on his health while also saying that it's "itching" to get back into game action.

I've been skating the last few days while the guys were on the road and I've been feeling pretty good. I think I'll be ready to go any day here, depending on what the situation is.

For sure, been itching really bad. Obviously when you're out it's a mental strain, probably more than physical. You kind of feel like you're leaving the boys hanging.

Cossa played great there against Buffalo as well, it's awesome. Yeah, just gotta keep grinding.

Lyon then noted that his health is his most important asset and that he's not worried about the injury flaring up again.

I just tweaked something and just honestly, health is a major asset in this profession, so trying to work on staying healthy is something I take very seriously. I just have cross my t's and dot my i's a little bit better, and bring my attention out a little more, but yeah, I'm feeling good.

Not something I'm worried about going forward, so that's good for me mentally.

Will Alex Lyon re-sign with the Red Wings?

Will the Red Wings re-sign Lyon this summer? His two-year contract expires on July 1, and there will be a large contingent of the fan base who would like to see Sebastian Cossa elevated to the backup role in anticipation of his own NHL starting career.

This year, Lyon has a 4-4 record with a 2.75 GAA and a .911 SV%.
