For one of the teams in the Atlantic Division looking to climb out of the basement and finally make it back to the postseason, the Buffalo Sabres don't appear to be any closer to that goal.
After their loss to the New York Rangers tonight on home ice, they've now gone winless in their last seven home games and have lost even more ground in both the division and conference.
The Sabres, who brought back former head coach Lindy Ruff during the offseason, are in complete shambles - especially with how their last several home games have gone.
Last week, they enjoyed a 4-0 lead over the Colorado Avalanche in the first 20 minutes of play, only to eventually allow five unanswered goals and lost 5-4.
Against the Red Wings on Monday, they had leads of 1-0, 3-2, and 5-3, only for the Red Wings to come back and win 5-4 in a shootout.
Despite scoring four goals and chasing now former-Avalanche goaltender Alexander Georgiev from the net, the Sabres couldn't close the deal.
They suffered perhaps their most humiliating loss in recent memory, as the Avalanche roared back with five unanswered goals to win 5-4 in regulation.
Unless something changes in a hurry, the Sabres postseason drought - currently the longest in the NHL - will continue.
