After an active offseason by Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman, the team enters the 2024-25 season with high expectations, aiming for a long-awaited playoff spot.

ESPN's projections for key players provide insight into who might exceed expectations and who might fall short.
JT Compher is poised to surpass his projection of 49 points. Coming off a solid season and surrounded by more talent on the second line, particularly with potential linemates like Vladimir Tarasenko or Patrick Kane, he could break the 50-point mark.
Andrew Copp is likely to underperform relative to his projection of 36 points. Despite being a reliable middle-six forward, his declining ice time and potential competition from emerging prospects suggest he might hover around the low 30s.
Alex DeBrincat is projected at 69 points but could exceed this, especially if paired with top talents like Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond. A more consistent presence on the ice could push him into the 30-goal, 70-point range.
Larkin should surpass his 78-point projection if he stays healthy, building on his career-high 33 goals from last season. With improved line chemistry, breaking the 80-point barrier seems achievable.
Raymond might fall just short of his ambitious 85-point projection. Although he's on an upward trajectory, such a leap might be slightly too steep this season.
Moritz Seider is expected to outperform his projection of 41 points. As he grows more confident offensively, reaching 45 points, including 10 goals, seems within reach.
Joe Veleno is likely to underperform, given his history of inconsistency and the added competition for roster spots. Despite setting career highs last season, he might struggle to exceed his projected 32 points.
Ultimately, a mix of players meeting or exceeding projections could help the Red Wings finally break their playoff drought.
