The Detroit Red Wings were defeated by the Boston Bruins in last night's game, 2-1. One frustrating statistic from the game is that the Red Wings were unsuccessful in all five of their power play opportunities.

It was a true power outage for the Detroit Red Wings against the Boston Bruins last night, as Detroit failed to cash in on all five of their chances with the man advantage.

Considering that they lost by one goal in what was mostly a tightly-contested contest, those missed opportunities are all the more frustrating.

Forward Lucas Raymond, who has two goals in as many games, feels that he and his teammates haven't had the same kind of movement that made their power play an opportune weapon in the games prior.

You get into (a) period where the puck might go in.

The last two games the movement we had before hasn't been there, and retrievals off the shots (is missing), but we know what to do to be successful and it's just about getting back to it.

Dylan Larkin, arguably Detroit's most valuable player and a key element of the power play, pointed to the lack of simply attacking the net as a major reason why they were unable to find the back of the net while up one man on the ice.

We're moving the puck around too much. We have to get back to attacking the net, and we didn't do enough to set up the next guy.

It was all five of us on the ice where we kind of just threw garbage around and let someone else deal with the issues They (the Bruins) kill hard, they pressure really hard.

We just have to be cleaner, set up the next play, and give someone a good pass so they can do something with it.

Whether it was a lack of urgency, of execution, or both, the success wasn't there against the Bruins (and the Islanders on Thursday) that helped make Detroit's power play the 6th best in the NHL.

Coach Derek Lalonde believes the main issue was the lack of quick movement.

The power play was slow. We had good momentum and then it got to the flanks and stopped, and all that does is that allows them (opponents) to get position.

When we were clicking on the power play, it was tic-tac-toe and fast moving and we've gotten back to very slow.
