Goaltender and Michigan native Jack Campbell was signed over the summer, but until recently, he had yet to appear in game action with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Goaltender Jack Campbell has made his first appearance with the Grand Rapids Griffins, his first action since entering the NHL Player Assistance Program.

While his 2024-25 debut didn't go as planned with a 3-1 loss, Campbell is still grateful to be back on the ice in game action.

Feels good. Grateful to be out there...It's a great group. The guys compete, we work hard every day, and it's a fun group to go to battle with.

Campbell is keeping things in perspective, focusing on the new day ahead rather than dwelling on the tough loss.

I thought we competed hard but we just couldn't come away with the win. Everyone played hard and it's a new day tomorrow.

His performance also drew positive reviews from coach Dan Watson.

I thought he played well. I like the way he comes out and plays the puck.

He's smart with it. He made a lot of point-blank saves. Overall, a great performance for game No. 1.

Port Huron, Michigan native Jack Campbell joined the Detroit Red Wings during the summer

The Michigan native and former Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender was signed by the Edmonton Oilers and former Detroit Red Wings GM Ken Holland in 2022.

The deal was for five years and $25 million, but Campbell struggled heavily in his first two years with the club and found himself demoted to the AHL and later having the rest of his contract bought out.

The Detroit Red Wings came calling, inking him as a depth move with the intention of putting him in the American Hockey League with the Grand Rapids Griffins.
