The Detroit Red Wings have always been one of the best teams in the National Hockey League in terms of community engagement, and paid it forward in a major way earlier today at practice.
As part of an initiative with The Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Red Wings hosted a young fan named Sylvia Rodegher during practice and even signed her to an official one-day contract.
Sylvia not only took part in practice, but also had her own personalized jersey and locker stall with a customized nameplate.

It's a great sight to see when young fans have dreams come true like this, and the Red Wings played a key role in making it happen today for Sylvia.
But before the kind gesture by the Red Wings, there was business to attend to.
Attempting to get rid of the negative feelings from last night's 5-2 loss at home to the Toronto Maple Leafs, head Coach Todd McLellan ran his 1st full practice session since being elevated to the job on Thursday.
He replaced Derek Lalonde behind the bench, who simply wasn't getting the job done and getting the most out of his players.
McLellan noted that the Red Wings have plenty to work on, and focused on a pair of key areas of their game that needed the most attention.
