New Detroit Red Wings head Coach Todd McLellan offered a no-holds barred review of his players following his 1st full practice session at Little Caesars Arena.

The Detroit Red Wings held their 1st full practice session under new head Coach Todd McLellan, who was hired by general manager Steve Yzerman following the termination of Derek Lalonde and assistant Bob Boughner.

Additionally, Trent Yawney was hired as an assistant; he's served as an assistant with McLellan for years in the past with the San Jose Sharks, Edmonton Oiler and Los Angeles Kings.

Today's Red Wings practice session was intense, and also included new-look line combinations.

The hope is that the Red Wings will be able to implement some of McLellan's system in tomorrow night's game against the Washington Capitals at Little Caesars Arena (5:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).

McLellan praised the Red Wings' video staff for putting together content on short notice, while noting that his 1st full practice was very similar to training camp.

In some sense, it is. But you don't...we don't have, as a staff, the summer to plan for it and we don't have the time to work on everything.

The video coaches did an unreal job today in a stressful situation just to get us ready for a meeting, you don't have that when you prepare for training camp because you had three months to get prepared and we had three hours.

The on ice part was good, we targeted two areas we needed to work on, usually that's a good sign. We have to implement some things we want to change.
