New Red Wings Coach Todd McLellan had a brutal message for his players during today's practice following last night's 5-2 loss to the Maple Leafs.

So far, not so good for Detroit Red Wings head Coach Todd McLellan as he and his club lost 5-2 to the Toronto Maple Leafs during his debut.

To be fair, McLellan had just arrived in town as head coach the previous day, and hadn't had time to conduct a full practice.

That's changed today, as the Red Wings gathered for their morning skate. Plenty was worked on, including the penalty killing.

But there was one moment during practice that has since gone viral on social media. McLellan issued a blunt demand to the players as part of the intense session on the ice.

Play f---ing hockey, you've done it your whole lives!

Todd McLellan hinted at an intense practice following last night's loss

McLellan explained after last night's 5-2 loss that it didn't take "a hockey expert" to see that the Red Wings had much to work on.

You talk about spirit, nobody wants to be five down heading into the third period. (But) there's a fight that the players maintained and instilled. The power play was dangerous and had multiple chances to score and finally got one.

We created some opportunities, and we didn't create six goals worth and that's what we needed to win a game, but we'll focus on the defensive side starting tomorrow and go from there.
