As if getting outshot, outplayed, and out hustled by the Ottawa Senators yet again wasn't bad enough for the Detroit Red Wings, they're now without one of their most important players on the back end.
Top-pairing defenseman Simon Edvinsson returned to the Red Wings' dressing room after falling awkwardly to the ice; his shot was blocked by Senators captain Brady Tkachuk, who attempted to fight his way through Edvinsson into the Detroit defensive zone.
Tkachuk also appeared to slash Edvinsson as both went down to the ice.
Edvinsson went down the tunnel toward the dressing room.
UPDATE: Thankfully, the good news is that Edvinsson has returned to the bench and has since returned to his usual top pairing alongside Moritz Seider.
The Red Wings definitely dodged a bullet with what appeared to be an injury to Edvinsson, who is in his first full year in the NHL.
He would have been the latest significant injury concern for the Red Wings, who are without Alex Lyon and Cam Talbot, and also were missing Patrick Kane for the last several games before he returned to the lineup for tonight's game.
Edvinsson has nine points (3G, 9A) and has averaged 21:05 of ice time per game.
The Red Wings were eventually defeated by the Senators, who got the game-winning goal with just 42 seconds remaining from Josh Norris, his second goal of the night.
Detroit needs to figure things out quickly if they want to avoid a 9th straight year outside of the playoffs.
