Former 1st-round pick Filip Zadina just signed a new contract
Filip Zadina's NHL journey has paused as he signs a contract with HC Davos in the Swiss National League.
Drafted sixth overall by the Detroit Red Wings in 2018, Zadina was Ken Holland's final first-round pick as Red Wings GM. However, he struggled to meet the high expectations placed on him and never fully found his footing in Detroit.
After asking for a fresh start last summer, Zadina moved to the San Jose Sharks, where he posted a career-high 13 goals and 10 assists in 72 games. Despite these efforts, the Sharks opted not to keep him through their rebuild, leaving Zadina to explore new opportunities.
Now, he heads to HC Davos, a club with a storied history, boasting 31 titles in the National League. Zadina will aim to help Davos improve on their sixth-place finish last season and guide them back to championship contention. This move offers him a chance to reset his career and potentially rediscover the form that made him a top prospect in 2018.
