Former Detroit Red Wings icon Sergei Fedorov had his number retired, but not by the club he became known for during his NHL days.

One of the biggest debates among fans of the Detroit Red Wings is whether or not franchise icon Sergei Fedorov should have his No. 91 jersey number finally retired by the team and raised to the rafters of Little Caesars Arena.

As one of the greatest players in team history, Fedorov's accomplishments were rewarded with a well-deserved induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015; he also scored exactly 400 goals while wearing the Winged Wheel before a messy split in 2003 ended his time with the team.

Fedorov's jersey number has since been retired - but not by the Red Wings.

Fedorov's KHL club CSKA Moscow honored him by raising his No. 18 to the rafters of their venue.

Former Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios is "shocked" that Red Wings have not retired Fedorov's No. 91

While speaking on TNT's broadcast of Wednesday's Red Wings game against the Flyers, Fedorov's former teammate Chris Chelios expressed his disbelief that No. 91 hadn't been raised to the Little Caesars Arena rafters.

I mean, it's hard for me to believe. He was such a great teammate, I was there for two of the Cups (2002, 2008) but he won three. He was stealth, he could carry the team as a forward and Scotty put him on defense, he was a natural.

He was such a great kid, nobody in the locker room worked harder. That's shocking, but I hope it gets in there and Sergei gets his jersey retired, he deserves it.
