To make the playoffs in 2024-25, the Detroit Red Wings must address four critical advanced team stats.

Here are the stats they need to address:
Corsi For at 5-on-5: The Red Wings' Corsi For (CF%) was 46.5 last season. Improving this metric will increase their puck possession and scoring opportunities. If they can boost their CF% to near 50 percent, it could propel them from a top-10 scoring team to a top-five team, significantly enhancing their playoff chances.
High-Danger Goals Against: Detroit allowed 668 high-danger chances and 74 high-danger goals at 5-on-5, well above the league average. Reducing these chances is crucial to strengthening their defence. Lowering their high-danger goals against will be vital, especially with improved goaltending.
Expected Goals For (xGF): Despite scoring well, their xGF was just 150.6, well below the league average of 167.7. They need to take more high-quality shots to convert their scoring chances more efficiently and maximize their goal output.
Actual Goals Against (aGA): The Red Wings allowed 189 goals at 5-on-5, higher than their expected goals against 177. Even with better goaltending in place, improving their defensive play to reduce goals allowed will be crucial.
If Steve Yzerman addresses these areas will be key to breaking their playoff drought and significantly impacting the 2024-25 season.
