The Detroit Red Wings gathered for practice at Little Caesars Arena this morning, but there was one noticeable absence.
Defenseman Simon Edvinsson, who was hurt in the 1st period of Wednesday's victory over the Philadelphia Flyers and did not return, was nowhere to be found at the morning skate.
And per coach Derek Lalonde, Edvinsson won't be available for tonight's game against the divisional foe Montreal Canadiens (7:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
Additionally, Lalonde indicated that Edvinsson won't be able to play in tomorrow night's rematch against Montreal on the road, and could even miss Monday's game back at Little Caesars Arena against the St. Louis Blues.
Edvinsson, Detroit's Round 1 pick from the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, is in his 1st full year with the Red Wings.
He routinely plays on the top pairing with 2022 Calder Trophy winner Moritz Seider, and has 13 points (3G, 10A) in 30 games with a +5 rating; he averages 20:44 of ice time per game.
Following Wednesday's game, Derek Lalonde didn't have an immediate update on Edvinsson's condition, while Detroit was forced to improvise on their defense; Ben Chiarot and Moritz Seider both saw increased ice time, something Lalonde was sure to acknowledge.
