Lucas Raymond looking at contract extension
Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond is headed into the last year of his contract with Detroit and after a great season last year, he is likely in for a big pay raise.
Raymond had a great season in his first year with the Wings as he put up 57 points in 82 games. This year was his best so far as he hit career highs in all categories with 72 points in which 31 were goals.
GM Steve Yzerman has a lot of cap space to work with this summer which is why fans will likely see a deal take place shortly, the Wings currently have $26.5 million in free cap space.
Detroit has a cap space for the 2024-25 NHL season of $26.5 million so they do have the cash to pay him. However, they do have other players in need of being signed and they may still want to grab a free agent or two to upgrade the roster. - Jelinek
It seems like the Wings will be able to sign Raymond around $7 million per year for 5 years which could be an incredible contract in the future as the young forward has already proven he belongs and still has a lot of room to grow.
