After a disappointing close call in his quest to secure an Olympic berth with Norway, Brandsegg-Nygard returned to Sweden to rejoin his SHL club, Skelleftea. This week, he'll participate in two Champions Hockey League (CHL) games with Skelleftea, facing Austria's Red Bull Salzburg on Friday and Germany's Straubing Tigers on Sunday.
According to Skelleftea coach Robert Ohlsson, Brandsegg-Nygard will then travel to Detroit for training camp, where he can play in several preseason games. Detroit's general manager, Steve Yzerman, and his coaching staff will decide whether he will stay with the Red Wings for the 2024-25 NHL season or return to Skelleftea.
Brandsegg-Nygard is determined to make an impact but remains realistic about his chances of making the NHL roster this season. If he does return to Sweden, he will join forces with fellow Red Wings prospect Axel Sandin Pellikka at Skelleftea. The two have been building chemistry, and Brandsegg-Nygard has been keen to learn more about the Red Wings organization from his future teammate.
