Moritz Seider admits the difficult truth after Detroit Red Wings get swept in 2-game series by Canadiens
The Detroit Red Wings may have hit rock bottom with their pair of losses to the Canadiens, who have now leapfrogged them in the standings.
The Detroit Red Wings entered their quick 2-game series against the divisional foe Montreal Canadiens on Friday with a chance to earn valuable points against a team below them in the standings.
Instead, the Red Wings not only failed to protect their lead in the 3rd period of Friday's game at Little Caesars Arena, but also offered an all-around dud on Saturday night in the rematch in Montreal.
With last night's 5-1 defeat, the Canadiens are now a point ahead of Detroit in the Atlantic Division; the Red Wings are now ahead of only the hapless Buffalo Sabres, who have lost 14 in a row.
Defenseman Moritz Seider pointed to the clear problem afterward, saying not only did they fail to execute on their game plan, but that they're just not playing good enough hockey right now.
We just got out-competed and out-worked. That's a very frustrating feeling. Coming in here, obviously we had a gameplan but couldn't really emphasize on that. Now, we just have to turn the page and regroup.
Find a way to win hockey games, especially find a good reason to get to the locker room the next couple of days with a little bit different energy.
The intensity over 60 minutes. It's hard to win when you have little dips and lags in your game. Obviously you're not going to be perfect every time, but we always have to aim for perfection. We're just not good enough right now.
It's not shaping up to be a very happy holiday season for the Red Wings and their fans, many of whom believed the team should have been taking a quantum leap forward this year after coming so close to the postseason last year.
