Todd McLellan is the new bench boss in town for the Detroit Red Wings, and they already appear to be buying in to his "Play f***ing hockey" mantra that he barked at them during his 1st official full-length practice on Saturday.
It paid off with a 4-2 win over the Washington Capitals on Sunday night, and will hopefully have a similar happy outcome in tonight's New Year's Eve matchup against the former rival Pittsburgh Penguins at Little Caesars Arena (8:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
The Red Wings have also recently been involved in trade rumours with the division foe Buffalo Sabres; the name of Dylan Cozens has been floated.
But now, a noted NHL journalist has suggested that the Red Wings could take advantage of what is an odd situation with the Vancouver Canucks and land one of their top players.
By now, you've possibly heard of the reported divide in the Canucks locker room stemming from an alleged rift between starts Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller, both of whom have denied there's an issue (but that's to be expected).
NHL insider Rob Simpson, who covers both the Canucks and the Seattle Kraken in the Pacific Northwest, floated the possibility of the Red Wings acquiring Pettersson and placing him on a line with fellow Swede Lucas Raymond.
This year, Pettersson has 28 points (10G, 18A) in 34 games. He was Vancouver's 1st round selection (5th overall) in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, and he was later named the recipient of the Calder Trophy as the NHL's best rookie that year.
