The Detroit Red Wings earned their 5th straight win, beating the Ottawa Senators in overtime thanks to goals from Patrick Kane and Joe Veleno.

Make it an uneven 5 straight victories for the Detroit Red Wings, who defeated the Ottawa Senators 3-2 in overtime during last night's game at Little Caesars Arena.

Patrick Kane scored the winning goal in overtime, ripping a blocker-side shot past Senators goalie Anton Forsberg:

Joe Veleno tied the score for Detroit shortly into the 3rd period, and his exuberant celebration caught the attention of Kane , who made sure to say the celebration was only the second best of the night with a sly grin.

It was the 2nd best celly of the night.

«(Veleno's) was pretty good, though. He had a few pumps in there. I'm not sure what the count was. It might have been over/under three and a half pumps, so I think I'm taking the over on that. But it was a good one. It's nice to see that emotion too. Right. I think it's a hard thing to do to score in this league, and when you score, it's cool when guys get excited.

The Red Wings have completely turned things around from the situation they found themselves in a month ago. GM Steve Yzerman decided to part ways with coach Derek Lalonde, while hiring Todd McLellan and signing him to a multi-year deal.

So far, the move has paid off tremendously, and the difference in not only the team's play on the ice but their overall demeanor is palpable.
