The Detroit Red Wings have been around since 1926, making their recent accomplishment for the 1st time in franchise history all the more special.

For the 2nd time since Todd McLellan took over as head coach on December 26, the Detroit Red Wings have themselves a 7-game winning streak.

They beat the Seattle Kraken 3-2 in the shootout on Tuesday night (or Wednesday morning, depending on your location). Patrick Kane became the NHL's leading goal-scorer in the shootout since its implementation in 2005-06 with the deciding goal:

Thanks to their win, the Red Wings have now set franchise history by claiming their second 7-game winning streak inside of 20 games.

The Red Wings have won seven straight twice in a 20-game span for the first time in ... franchise history. Not a bad first impression by McLellan.

(The 95-96 Wings went 22-2 over one stretch and won six straight *six* times. This 15-3-1 run mirrors their pace for the season.)

Todd McLellan has just earned history with the Detroit Red Wings.

It's the first time in franchise history Detroit's had TWO seven-game winning streaks in the same season.

McLellan has been here a month. Incredible.

They're also now in a Wild Card playoff position, a complete reversal of their fortunes from late December when they were tied for last place in the Eastern Conference.

Considering that the Red Wings have been around since 1926 and have the most Stanley Cup wins of any American based NHL team (11) and 3rd most in NHL history behind the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs, that's an incredible accomplishment.
