Thanks to last night's 3-2 shootout victory over the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena, the Detroit Red Wings have their 2nd 7-game winning streak under new head coach Todd McLellan, who was hired on December 26.
They're right back in the Wild Card of the Eastern Conference Standings, and face the divisional foe Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday afternoon at Little Caesars Arena (1:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
It will be a major matchup with implications in the standings, as the Red Wings and Lightning are neck and neck with one another.
But before the matchup, the Red Wings have announced a roster move. They've re-assigned forward Dominik Shine to the Grand Rapids Griffins:
Shine had been re-called by the Red Wings for what was his very first taste of life in the National Hockey League last week; he had previously spent his entire professional career playing in the minors.
He also picked up his 1st NHL point, an assist on captain Dylan Larkin's goal against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome.
His inaugural NHL contest took place last week against the Los Angeles Kings at Little Caesars Arena in front of family and friends - needless to say, it was a special moment for a player originally from metro-Detroit and who grew up imagining himself playing for the Red Wings.
Shine, who also played at Northern Michigan University, has 32 points (11G, 31A) in 40 games this year with the Griffins. He returns to the AHL with a single assist in the four games he played with the Red Wings.
