The Red Wings swept their 4-game road swing, beating the Kraken 5-4 in a shootout to claim their seventh-consecutive victory to maintain their Wild Card spot.
Despite losing their lead on three separate occasions, the Detroit Red Wings didn't wilt on Tuesday night against Seattle Kraken.
Future Hall of Fame forward Patrick Kane scored the shootout-deciding goal, giving the Red Wings a 5-4 victory and their 7th-consecutive win.
They swept their 4-game road trip, which also included victories over the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks.
head coach Todd McLellan, who was hired by general manager Steve Yzerman on December 26 to replace the terminated Derek Lalonde, spoke about the lift in his team's spirit throughout their winning streak.
The spirit and the belief system have gone up. They're playing to the structure that we put in. It's easy when you're winning - you can get people to believe in things a lot simpler than if you're losing.
Additionally, McLellan pointed toward the strong power play for the Red Wings, which has been among the NHL's best in the last several weeks and came through with a pair of goals.
Tonight, it was about special teams. We had two power-play goals, one a second after, so call it three. Penalty kill did its job and we won the shootout, so all special-teams situations. I thought our 5-on-5 game was pretty good.
We didn't give up much. [Talbot] made some saves when he had to, probably wants one or two back but when it came to the shootout, they didn't get anything. Everybody chipped in.
