Since his return to the Red Wings on December 26 to replace the terminated Derek Lalonde, McLellan has led Detroit to a 15-5-1 mark and put them right back into the postseason picture.
Right now, the Red Wings occupy the 2nd Wild Card playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and would end their postseason drought if the playoffs began today.
McLellan has also put himself into the conversation to be named the winner of the Jack Adams Trophy as the NHL's top coach thanks to what he's been able to accomplish with the Red Wings.
