Player vote by Red Wings players yields surprising result

We've seen several former NHL players get into the world of coaching after their playing careers come to a close.

Several former players are currently serving as head coaches across the League, including Andrew Brunette with the Nashville Predators, Rod Brind'Amour with the Carolina Hurricanes, and Craig Berube of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Which current Detroit Red Wings player would make the best coach after his playing career ends?

Red Wings players were polled by The Athletic, and the overwhelming choice was forward Andrew Copp, who received six total votes.

Coming in 2nd place was veteran defenseman Jeff Petry with 4 votes; he's been absent from the lineup after getting hurt against the Blue Jackets on January 2 and recently underwent surgery.

Several players then rounded out the list with a single vote each, including Patrick Kane, Dylan Larkin, Ben Chiarot, Dylan Larkin, Michael Rasmussen and Christian Fischer.

Copp, who attended the University of Michigan in the nearby Detroit suburb of Ann Arbor, is playing in his 3rd year with the team after signing as a free agent in the summer of 2022.

It's been a long break since the Red Wings last played earlier this month thanks to the 4 Nations Faceoff, but the team was back at Little Caesars Arena today for practice.
