Former Red Wings forward Marian Hossa is all about family now, as he celebrates his wife Jana's 40th birthday.
He may have had a single year with the Detroit Red Wings, but he still made (almost) the most of it.
Former Red Wings forward Marian Hossa, who infamously played for Detroit in 2008-09, is all about family these days and recently celebrated his wife Jana's 40th birthday with a special post on Instagram.
Jana recently spoke of how she and Marian first got together, which took place during the 2004-05 NHL lockout.
I met Marian Hossa 18 years ago during the NHL lockout in 2004, when he was playing with the Ottawa Senators. That season, he stayed in Europe, so we had a chance to get to know each other and spent a lot of time together. At the time, I didn't know much about his career or the NHL. The next NHL season, we left together for the U.S.
Marian and Jana are the parents to sons Mia and Zoja.
Marian Hossa played a single year with the Red Wings
After losing to the Red Wings in the 2008 Stanley Cup Finals, Hossa infamously decided to join the Red Wings on a 1-year contract, feeling they represented his best chance to win.
He had a successful year, scoring 40 regular season goals (and to this day is Detroit's most recent 40 goal scorer).
However, his performance in the postseason was heavily scrutinized as he failed to score in the Cup Final rematch against the Penguins, who eventually stunned the Red Wings in Game 7 at Joe Louis Arena.
That summer, Hossa would ink a 12 year deal with the Chicago Blackhawks, and later won the Stanley Cup in 2010, 2013 and 2015.
He was recently inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and had his sweater No. 81 retired by the Blackhawks.
