The Detroit Red Wings are getting used to life under new head coach Todd McLellan, who replaced the recently terminated Derek Lalonde behind the bench and picked up his 1st win last night against the Washington Capitals.
With the victory, the Red Wings broke a 4-game losing skid and avoided taking sole possession of last place in the Eastern Conference.
There was little time to enjoy the win, as the team gathered for practice this morning at Little Caesars Arena in preparation for tomorrow's tilt against the Pittsburgh Penguins (8:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
McLellan aims to get 1st year Red Wings forward Vladimir Tarasenko, a former 40-goal scorer with the St. Louis Blues who has managed a mere four goals so far this season, going again.
Tarasenko was signed by the Red Wings shortly after he helped the Florida Panthers win the franchise's 1st Stanley Cup in a thrilling 7-game series over the Edmonton Oilers.
A former 40-goal scorer while playing with the St. Louis Blues, with whom he also helped to the Stanley Cup in 2019, Tarasenko has only found the back of the net four times this year with the Red Wings, a far cry from what they were anticipating.
