Red Wings continue to be disrespected by NHL despite bringing in historic numbers

The Detroit Red Wings are one of the most historic franchises in the NHL and have played two of the biggest games in the NHL.
What's the catch? The Detroit Red Wings have played in two
Stadium Series games, one of which was played in Michigan.
In 2014, against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the two teams faced off in Ann Arbor, Michigan in the Wolverines home of Michigan Stadium.
The crowd in attendance was massive, more so than the 2025 Stadium Series with a total of 105,491.
The original-six squad continues to deliver high levels of fan engagement as you can see above.
While in Ohio Stadium they played in front of a respectable crowd of 94,751, however, it seems like they completely forgot the 2014 stat above.
The game was televised nationally in Canada on CBC and nationally in the United States on NBC. The game set an NHL attendance record of 105,491, surpassing the previous record set during the 2008 NHL Winter Classic.
The NHL however continues to treat the Red Wings like a joke despite their rich history of winning in the league.
The Wings wouldn't come out victorious, but would put up a great fight against their Ohio-based rivals, the Blue Jackets.
The Red Wings would put up three goals but would be unable to overcome the offensive weaponry of the Blue Jackets.
They would also get the "Toronto Treatment" that teams like Columbus usually get, with a missed call on
Justin Danforth's high-sticking.
It's time for the NHL to stop treating the Red Wings with kid gloves, and like the franchise that gave us Pavel Datsyuk, Steve Yzerman, Gordie Howe, and Sergei Federov.
A legitimate original-six club, with a backstory that deserves an Oscar-winning movie the likes of Miracle.
Yet all they've gotten so far is a Hallmark movie with Michael Shanks, and Net Worth.
