Elliotte Friedman reveals a trade between the Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers that has been canceled
With the NHL Trade Deadline just a few days away, Friday March 7, all eyes are on the Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman, however, it was revealed by NHL reporter, Elliotte Friedman, that Yzerman's plans may not be going as anticipated after a failed trade with the New York Rangers.
The Red Wings are fresh off a back-to-back loss against their playoff spot competitors, the Columbus Blue Jackets, and although it's crunch time, a reporter revealed the Red Wings GM lost a trade with the New York Rangers.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed:
«I think (Yzerman) has been looking for a defenseman - uh, I think he was looking at Lindgren.. Believe me if i'm wrong i'm gonna hear about this I think he was looking at Lindgren and I think he also had some interest in other guys that were out there like Will Borgen kinda guys I think he's been looking at that.»
Detroit had all intent on acquiring New York Rangers' defenseman, Ryan Lindgren, yet the trade was cancelled due to his organization sending him to the Colorado Avalanche.
Although plans may not be in Yzerman's favour, they are in dire need of a replacement for their injured players, such as forward Michael Rasmussen.
The NHL insider reporter, Elliotte Friedman, also stated:
«Losing Rasmussen - uh, is a tough one. Him getting hit by Zegras - that one that got Zegras suspended uh, that's a tough loss for them. He's a good player for them. So, when I look at Detroit they've lost Copp, he's now done - out for the year. They lost Rasmussen - he's a big loss for them, so I think people are wondering does Yzerman go out and get someone who can fill those kinds of roles depending on how long Rasmussen's gonna be out. But again I think he's looking at a defenseman too, and I always think Yzerman is looking long term.»
There have been reports regarding Yzerman's decisions for Friday's trade deadline, but unfortunately for the Red Wings, even if their is interest in players, Steve Yzerman will have to be quick as he's already missed out on acquiring the ideal-fitting defenseman for the Red Wings.
Although plans aren't set and stone for this organization, we can expect the Red Wings' GM to find long term players during this trade deadline season.
