Red Wings kick off preseason against Blackhawks with high-intensity matchup
The Detroit Red Wings are set to open their preseason schedule with a highly anticipated game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night at the United Center.
The puck will drop at 8 p.m. ET, and fans can stream the action on DetroitRedWings.com and the Red Wings Mobile App. Detroit's preseason includes eight games, four at home in Little Caesars Arena and four on the road. Head coach Derek Lalonde noted the intensity of this period, saying:
"It's rinse and repeat. You're running two teams at once, and these fly-in, fly-out road trips are part of it."
The Red Wings trimmed their Training Camp roster to 57 players, with more cuts to come before their 23-man Opening Night roster is finalized on October 7. Lalonde plans to use the preseason to mix lineups, giving young prospects a chance to compete with and against NHL veterans.
Detroit is looking to carry over the intensity they built during Training Camp into the preseason as they prepare for the regular season.
