Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat scored twice last night, including the overtime game-winner over the Vancouver Canucks for Detroit's 6th straight victory.
Not only did DeBrincat score Detroit's 1st goal of the night, but he also capped the night with the deciding goal in sudden-death overtime:
The Red Wings are now 13-4-1 under new coach Todd McLellan, who was hired by general manager Steve Yzerman on December 26 after the termination of Derek Lalonde.
DeBrincat, who claimed his 22nd and 23rd goals of the year, said that it was a "great" feeling in the dressing room knowing that his club would qualify for the postseason if it were to begin today.
It's great, we knew we had it in this room. It needed kind of a fresh start, kind of a restart, and it feels like a new season. We're winning games when we haven't played our best and that's what good teams do. We have to keep it up.
The Red Wings were outshot by the Canucks 27-18, marking one of the rare occasions that their opposition put more rubber on goal than they were able to under McLellan.
But as DeBrincat noted, the Red Wings started to gain more traction after the Canucks tied things up in the third period.
It wasn't maybe our best performance, maybe not the best legs on the back-to-back, and we were kind of sitting back in the third period. Once it went to 2-2 we got our legs back and started to push.
