Report: Detroit Red Wings are in on New York Rangers' Jacob Trouba
With multiple reports arising that the New York Rangers are set to part ways with captain Jacob Trouba, the Detroit Red Wings are said to be in the mix to land him.
The New York Rangers are reportedly set to ditch captain Jacob Trouba today, either via trade or exposing him to the other 31 NHL clubs on the waiver wire.
And according to one notable hockey insider, the Detroit Red Wings are said to be in the mix to land his services.
TSN's Darren Dreger reports that the Red Wings are showing interest in Trouba along with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Anaheim Ducks.
CBJ, Det and Anaheim among the crop of teams circling around Trouba and the NYR. Complicated. Nothing going on between the Rangers and Ottawa Senators. Zilch.
Additionally, TSN's Pierre LeBrun has indicated there are a handful of deals in place that would require Trouba to waive his no-trade clause.
Hearing that the Rangers have multiple deals on the table involving Trouba but they all need his consent to waive his modified no-trade. The sense is Trouba was going to sleep on it last night and perhaps decide today.
As @StapeAthletic alludes to here, there's a potential threat of waivers at play here if Trouba doesn't waive for one of these trades. Stay tuned.
Should the Detroit Red Wings bring Jacob Trouba back home to Michigan?
Trouba has served as Rangers captain for the last several years, but that era in New York appears to have reached a conclusion today.
How good would he look on the Detroit Red Wings' blue line instead of the maligned Jeff Petry or Erik Gustafsson?
Keeping in mind, however, Trouba has this year and next still on his contract with an $8 million AAV.
