The Detroit Red Wings were rumored to be in the mix to land former New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba, who has now been sent to a new team - and it's not in his home state.

Despite reportedly being in the mix to acquire New York Rangers captain and former Michigan Wolverines defenseman Jacob Trouba, the Detroit Red Wings won't end up with him.

He's been traded to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Urho Vaakanainen and a fourth-round pick. Additionally, the Ducks are picking up his entire $8 million AAV; he's under contract through next year.

Coincidently, the Ducks are managed by Pat Verbeek, Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman's former teammate with the Red Wings and close friend.

Jacob Trouba's fate with the Rangers was sealed earlier today

Earlier today, the Rangers announced that Trouba would not be in the lineup for tonight's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Madison Square Garden for "roster management".

In other words, they were ready to move on from him.

Rangers coach Peter Laviolette explained the decision earlier, saying that while Trouba is a good person, the results the team experienced in their recent tilt against the division foe New Jersey Devils was a main catalyst.

He's a good person, and a good player, and a good leader.

But today, when it comes to addressing this effort, taking time coming out of (Monday's 5-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils) and thinking about it, this is the decision that I made.

Trouba had also been linked to the Columbus Blue Jackets in addition to the Red Wings, per reports.
