Rumored Detroit Red Wings target Jacob Trouba: Rangers threatened me
Though the Detroit Red Wings missed out on acquiring Jacob Trouba, the ex-Rangers captain is exposing the Rangers for how they handled parting ways with him.
While the Detroit Red Wings were said to be interested in acquiring Jacob Trouba from the New York Rangers, it wasn't meant to be.
Yesterday, he was traded to the Anaheim Ducks as part of a package for New York to acquire a depth defenseman along with a 4th round draft pick.
It officially ended a tenure as captain of the Rangers that was truly a hot and cold experience both on the ice in his performance as well as his relationship with the fans.
But after the move was made official, Trouba exposed the Rangers as essentially having threatened him into accepting a move out of town.
Thursday) morning was, 'Accept this trade or we're scratching you. I said, 'OK.'
Then it was, 'Accept this trade or you're going on waivers,' and I said, 'OK.'
And then it got to a point where I felt comfortable with Anaheim and that was a place I wanted to go. I guess you could say I'm thankful that they made that happen.
Unfortunate, I think, how it all happened. It's a rite of passage to get fired at MSG.
Jacob Trouba had interest from his hometown Detroit Red Wings
The Detroit Red Wings were confirmed to have interest in acquiring Trouba, per NHL analysts Kevin Weeks and Emily Kaplan.
It would be the second time that the Red Wings had been looking at Trouba, as they were allegedly interested in trading for him over the summer only to have him invoke his no-trade clause as so not to be away from his wife, a physician with a residency at a local New York hospital.
