Saginaw Spirit win Memorial Cup
The Saginaw Spirit are the first Michigan based team to win the Memorial Cup in the CHL.
Saginaw were the host team for this years Memorial Cup, which added to the significance and intensity of the competition. The Spirit won the historic tournament by putting the London Knights to bed after a nailbiting 4-3 victory in the final game.
"To me, us, London, two best teams probably in the Canadian Hockey League to be honest," Spirit coach Chris Lazary told reporters in his postgame press conference. "They took an OHL championship off us and there was zero chance they were taking the Memorial Cup on our home ice, zero chance."
This victory marks a huge milestone in the Saginaw Spirit franchise, as they earn their first ever Memorial Cup championship, and they are just the third American team to win in CHL history.
