After failing to make the 2024 post season in dramatic fashion, one area general manager Steve Yzerman will potentially be looking at making adjustments is in net. As it stands, the Red Wings have two current strong options as net minders. Young Alex Lyon and Ville Husso.
Husso, who was once considered a Vezina caliber goaltender struggled last season, placing 85th overall among goalies with a .892 save percentage and only posting a 3.55 GAA. On the other hand, Alex Lyon was a diamond in the rough with a slightly better percentage at .904. So the question remains, who could Yzerman potentially get in return if he ultimately decides to pull the trigger?
Sources have speculated that Linus Ullmark would be a strong consideration for Yzerman. With the Boston Bruins clearing house and making huge off season adjustments, many are speculating that Ulmmark would be a decent fit in Detroit. Although expensive, the $5 Million goaltender would be pricey, additionally, risky. Surely a first-round draft pick would be necessary to solidify that deal. Should the Red Wings consider leaving their back end assets alone to continue their development in Detroit? Trading away their first-round pick would surely be the only strategy to ink Ullmark.
