In a recent interview, Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman shared why he likes the idea of his players going to the IIHF World tournament.
Yzerman said he has played in them and been part of management, adding he believes it is a great experience. He thinks the chance of winning gold and getting to play international hockey is exciting.
"I played in them; I've been a part as management," Yzerman said. "I think they're great opportunities, great experiences. To play international hockey is a lot of fun. To get a chance to win a gold medal is very exciting. So I would support it fully for any of our players. If they want to go, great."
Clearly the Red Wings GM believes that his players should participate if they are able to make their national team.
