Goaltender Alex Lyon has been absent from the Red Wings lineup for the last several weeks after he was hurt in practice, and the latest update on his health is out.
Detroit Red Wings goaltender Alex Lyon hasn't played since November 25, a 4-2 win over the New York Islanders at UBS Arena.
Not long afterward, he "tweaked" something during a practice session and hasn't been able to play since then. The Red Wings called up Ville Husso from the AHL, and also briefly had Sebastian Cossa up from the Griffins as well.
Cossa has since been sent back down, while veteran Jack Campbell, signed to a 1--year deal during the offseason after he was bought out by the Edmonton Oilers, was called up due to an injury to Cam Talbot.
Lyon has been a participant in practice, and coach Derek Lalonde hopes that he'll be able to dress for tomorrow's game against the Philadelphia Flyers at Little Caesars Arena (7:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
I'll get a read post-practice today. Alex had pushed it hard. Those lower-body [injuries] seem to hang around so we've been very cautious with our goalies, but he's gone through four to five really hard work days.
We're hoping to have him available for Wednesday, and we'll make a goalie decision from there.
Lyon is in his 2nd year with the Red Wings, and has gone 4-4 with a 2.75 GAA and one shutout.
Red Wings goaltender Ville Husso has played in Alex Lyon's absence
With Lyon unavailable, the Red Wings once again turned to Ville Husso.
For the most part, Husso has played well for the Red Wings in his last several outings (aside from last Monday's disastrous start against the Sabres) but didn't get the offensive support from his teammates.
