These are the kinds of updates that the Detroit Red Wings cannot afford right now.
Top-pairing defenseman Simon Edvinsson, who routinely plays alongside Moritz Seider, was hurt during tonight's game against the Flyers at Little Caesars Arena.
The latest update is that he will be unavailable for the rest of the game.
Before going down with injury and departing, Edvinsson had skated in 5:36 of ice time and was a -1.
Detroit's 1st round pick (6th overall) in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Edvinsson has skated in 54 career NHL games and has 17 points (6G, 11A).
He's playing in his 1st full year with the Red Wings after having played the majority of his North American professional career with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins.
Edvinsson was called up near the end of last year, and appeared in a handful of games for the Red Wings down the stretch; the missed the playoffs by a single point thanks to a tiebreaker with the Washington Capitals.
