The struggling Red Wings forward needs to produce more for his team, who lost for the 3rd time in 4 games last night to the Stars.

Suddenly, the Detroit Red Wings are in want of offense after scoring 7 goals just over a week ago against the Seattle Kraken.
They've now scored twice in their last 2 games combined, both losses; they were beaten 5-1 by the Tampa Bay Lighting, and 4-1 by the Dallas Stars in last night's game.
One player who isn't producing compared to the contract that he's being paid is J.T. Compher, who has gone lengthy stretches this year without scoring. After a career-best 19 goals last year, he's on a current trajectory to score just 11 this year.
He's scored twice in his last 10 games, and like the rest of his teammates, Compher didn't like how they started poorly in last night's game despite being prepared to play.
That's a good team over there and they had good intensity to start the game. We made a few mistakes that gave them a little bit of life and it was stuff we talked about before the game that we know we didn't take care of.

Against good teams like that, when they make you pay, they get some confidence and it's hard to build your way back.

The Red Wings are now a full 5 points outside of the Wild Card position in the Eastern Conference. While that can be quickly fixed by going on another run similar to that when Todd McLellan took over on December 26, they can't afford to drop many more games.
We knew this road trip, we were going to play some good teams. We've learned some good things about our team that we can build on. That's what we need to do: Build on it and be ready at the start (of the game).

The Red Wings close out their 4-game trip tomorrow against the Philadelphia Flyers before returning home. Should they pick up the win tomorrow, they can still finish their road trip with a 2-2 record.
